Lyrical feelings

Sometimes you hear a lyric in a song that really speaks to you. Maybe it makes you cry, or makes you laugh, or just relates to you so well it sticks with you for a long time. I thought I would add a few notable ones from music I have been listening to recently. This is in no way a rated list. I hate having to choose favorites or make lists. It’s not my top picks, or bottom picks, it’s just some that I like. And hopefully, I’ll have more to list in the future, as I don’t plan on not listening to music after this.

Anyways, here we go. Here are some lyrics that I really appreciate:

  1. “But the man I love, when he picks up trash, he puts it in a garbage can”                      –  Fist City by Loretta Lynn

The first time I heard this lyric, I laughed so hard. It’s such a classic country song about a woman telling another woman to stay away from her man, haha. The other woman’s been bragging around town about being with Loretta’s man, and she’s here to settle business, ya’ll. There are so many other great lines in this song, but this one stuck out the most to me. Country legend.

2.  “What good is the dawn that grows into day, the sunset at night, or living this way” – The Warmth of the Sun by The Beach Boys

I’ve spent many hours lying on my floor next to the stereo listening to Beach Boys records, and being in awe of how beautiful their music is. The Warmth of the Sun is definitely one of my favorites, and this first line in the song is so strong. It perfectly describes the feelings of depression in one line. I know the song was written right after JFK was shot and killed, so it was an expression of the sadness of the time. The whole song is heartbreaking, but somehow it feels hopeful as well. It’s the healing power of the sun, and hope found in it’s consistency.

3. “Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street” – Red by Taylor Swift

I’m all about the hype for this new Taylor Swift album. She is so good with lyrics. There are so many that stick with me from all her albums, but this is one from one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums. It literally sums up the  whole song in one line, and the rest is just expanding on the feeling. I so loved the Red album. I can’t wait to hear what is next!!!

4. “I ain’t unpacked my suitcase since the day that I turned 21” – Runnin’ Just in Case by Miranda Lambert

I love this song. It has such a great feeling. This lyric is about carrying baggage from your past relationships, the scars that stay and affect you through your life. It’s a really special album, and seems very personal, but relatable. A great country album, in a time when I don’t love most music in country right now. I guess a lot of other people feel that way, and that’s why she continues to dominate the genre.

That’s all I’m posting for now. I hope to continue more posts like this in the future. This is basically a country music lyrics post haha. I didn’t mean for it to be, but I’m sure the next one will be more diverse. If you read this and have lyrics that come to mind that you love, you should comment and tell me. I would love a chance to listen.
